Choose ONE of the two projects below. Write a 200–250-word response. Project 1: Imagine that you are doing a project on what environmental problems Zetland teenagers consider to be the most dangerous. You have found some data on the subject — the results of an opinion poll. Comment on the data in the table and give your opinion on the subject of the project. Outline a problem that can arise with the environment in your region and suggest a way of solving it. Project 2: Imagine that you are doing a project on what is most important about the New Year celebration for Zetlanders. You have found some data on the subject — the results of an opinion poll. Comment on the data in the diagram and give your opinion on the subject of the project. Outline a problem that can arise with celebrating the New Year and suggest a way of solving it.

Use the following plan: make an opening statement on the subject of the project; select and report 2–3 facts; make 1–2 comparisons where relevant; outline a problem and suggest a way of solving it; conclude by giving your opinion on the importance of environmental protection for teenagers or family celebrations in our lives.

Report two or three numerical facts accurately. In the first project, global warming is the most frequently mentioned problem at 44%, while rare species extinction is the least popular option at 6%. In the second project, family celebration leads at 43%, whereas New Year TV programmes account for only 6%.
Make one or two comparisons using appropriate linking words such as “whereas”, “while”, “compared with” and “in contrast”.
Describe a relevant problem and offer a realistic solution. For example, local air pollution can be reduced through better public transport, stricter emission controls and more green spaces.
Conclude with a personal opinion connected to the chosen topic and check the word count, grammar and paragraph structure.
Write a coherent 200–250-word essay on ONE of the two proposed projects, following all five points of the plan.
