Ответ: Urban Living Conditions Survey
Model answer: The aim of this project is to analyse what should be done to improve living conditions in the large cities of Zetland. I have found some interesting data from a survey conducted among school students.
According to the table, the most popular option is making the air cleaner, chosen by 34% of respondents. Reducing noise levels is in second place with 25%, while 22% of the students believe that more trees should be planted. Much fewer respondents support building more bicycle lanes and reducing the number of cars: 11% and 8% respectively.
It is noticeable that clean air is considered more important than lower noise levels, although the difference is only 9 percentage points. At the same time, planting trees is twice as popular as reducing the number of cars. In my opinion, this may mean that students prefer positive environmental measures to restrictions on drivers.
One serious problem in large cities is air pollution caused by traffic and industrial emissions. To solve it, city authorities should improve public transport, encourage people to use bicycles and create more pedestrian zones. Planting trees could also help make urban areas healthier.
To conclude, I believe that making the air cleaner is the best way to improve urban living conditions. Clean air is essential for people's health, so this issue should be given the highest priority.

Choose only one of the two projects below and write a 200–250-word response. Comment on the survey data and give your opinion on the subject of the project.
Project 38.1: Imagine that you are doing a project on living conditions in the large cities of Zetland. You have found some data on the subject — the results of a survey conducted among Zetland school students. The survey question was: “What do you think should be done to improve living conditions in large cities?”
Use the following plan: make an opening statement on the subject of the project; select and report 2–3 facts; make 1–2 comparisons where relevant and give your comments; outline a problem related to living in a large city and suggest a way of solving it; conclude by giving and explaining your opinion on how to improve urban living conditions.
Project 38.2: Imagine that you are doing a project on communication with friends in Zetland. You have found some data on the subject — the results of a survey conducted among Zetlanders. The survey question was: “What is the main reason why you rarely communicate with your old friends?” The survey results are: living far from each other — 34%; lack of free time — 26%; new friends are more interesting — 20%; conflicts in the past — 11%; different interests — 9%.
Use the following plan: make an opening statement on the subject of the project; select and report 2–3 facts; make 1–2 comparisons where relevant and give your comments; outline a problem that one can face when communicating with old friends and suggest a way of solving it; conclude by giving and explaining your opinion on whether it is important to have many friends.
