AI have just finished my college applications. When I was doing them, I visited several websites, and each one stressed this fact: essay readers want to hear a student’s voice. AI can write well-structured essays in two minutes, but these essays have no voice. They are formulaic and dry, and they will not help a student get into a university. To have a chance, their essays must be interesting and engaging. So, a student must put in the work, writing and rewriting until they have produced an essay that tells readers who they are.
BWhile AI has its advantages, it can’t bring the satisfaction which comes from writing by yourself. AI uses the existing ideas of others in order to generate an answer. However, the response is not unique and does not truly represent the idea the way you would. When you write, it causes you to reflect on a topic and come up with an original idea. You understand a topic in greater depth. It creates a sense of clarity, and you look at a problem from different angles. So, it is still important to learn to be a good writer.
CIf you are writing an essay using AI, that is plagiarism. It can get you in a lot of trouble because it is against the law to try to make it seem like it is your writing. So I believe that learning how to be a good writer still matters a lot. When you write any sort of essay, you learn to communicate your ideas to your audience. This skill can be used in your daily life. You need to clearly express yourself when you talk to your teachers, write emails, or send a text message to your friends. This is something that AI cannot help you with.
DWriting is still an important skill, but maybe not in the same way it was in the past. In an era of improving AI, topics such as grammar and spelling are less important than ever. Platforms already correct small grammar mistakes; how long till they can suggest improving sentences? However, being a good writer is not just using grammar or vocabulary correctly. It is about collecting your thoughts into a logical text. If you want to communicate your own ideas, you are better off just writing it yourself.
EAI will eventually replace the need for the average person to write at the level that they do. AI is no different than every other tech advancement we have made, which have made tasks like writing easier. Similar concerns could have been raised with the introduction of computers in the classroom, and the loss of people having great handwriting. I don’t think the prospect should be worrying. AI is a tool. Having it write for us will allow us to focus on more important things that AI is not yet capable of.
FAI is becoming more and more competent. This could mean more students will find their way to an AI site to look for an answer. I agree that this could spell trouble for student intelligence if answers are so readily available. But you might want to consider the students themselves. The majority are hardworking and smart. They are not just smart about subjects at school, but about using AI for their school work. Students will probably not use this tech first hand until it stops making errors, and that will take some time.
GLearning to be a good writer absolutely still matters in the age of AI. While artificial intelligence can assist with certain aspects of writing, such as grammar checking, it cannot replace the creativity, critical thinking, and emotional intelligence that we human writers bring to the table. Another reason is that storytelling is part of human life. A good writer inspires thoughts, feelings, and actions. AI may boost efficiency, but it cannot copy the truthfulness that a human writer brings to their work.

Статья к заданиюOptimism vs. pessimism

Прочитайте текст и выполните задания.

Прочитайте текст и выполните задания 12–18. В каждом задании запишите в поле ответа цифру 1, 2, 3 или 4, соответствующую выбранному Вами варианту ответа.

Optimism vs. pessimism

Before you keep reading, take a moment to think about some of the things that happened to you today. Even better, grab a pen and write down a few specific events. So what did you come up with? Was it mostly positive stuff like: “My day’s going great! My grandmother made me pancakes for breakfast. I sat with my friends at lunch, and I actually enjoyed the English class today!” Or did your mind land on what went wrong: “My grandmother cooked breakfast and it made me so late I missed the bus. My friends wasted the entire lunch period gossiping about a boring TV show, and I had English class today. I hate Thursdays!”

Researchers have spent a lot of time studying people who think positively. It turns out that an optimistic attitude helps us be happier, more successful, and healthier. Optimism can protect against depression – even for people who are at risk of it. An optimistic outlook makes people more resistant to stress. Optimism may even help people live longer. To put it simply, optimism is healthy.

The best thing about optimism is you can learn it, even if your outlook tends to be more pessimistic. Optimism and pessimism are mindsets – ways of thinking and seeing things. Optimists see the positive side of things. They expect things to turn out well. They believe they have the skill and ability to make good things happen.

You’ve probably heard people who tend to see the faults in everything called “pessimists.” A pessimist is more likely to expect things to turn out poorly or to focus on what didn’t go well. People aren’t always optimistic or always pessimistic, but most people tend to lean toward one of these thinking patterns. The good news is, if you tend to be more pessimistic, you’re not destined to always think that way. We can all become more optimistic by adjusting the way we see things.

Another important thing is that optimism helps people succeed. Optimism goes beyond seeing the bright side of a situation or expecting good things. It’s also a way of explaining what has already happened. When something good happens, optimists think about what they did to make the situation turn out so well. They see their abilities as permanent, stable parts of themselves. They think of how this good thing can lead to other good things.

When things don’t go as expected, it’s the reverse: optimists don’t blame themselves. They see setbacks as temporary. When something goes wrong, optimists link it to a specific situation or event, and not to their capabilities. Because they don’t view setbacks as personal failings, optimists are able to bounce back from disappointment better than pessimists.

If you tend toward mostly pessimistic thinking, you can get better at seeing what’s good. Here are some things to try.

First of all, notice good things as they happen.

At the end of the day, take 10 minutes to run through your day and come up with things that you’re grateful for. Write them down in a journal, or keep track using a motivational app on your phone or tablet.

You can also train your mind to believe you can make good things happen in your life.

Get in a habit of telling yourself specific things you can do to succeed. For example: “If I study, I can get a better grade.” “If I practice, I'll perform well at the audition.” “If I go on that volunteer trip, I’ll meet new friends.”

When something good happens, give yourself credit.

Think of what you did to make a good outcome possible. Did you prepare for the test? Practise with dedication? Think of the strengths you used and how they helped you succeed.

These simple things can change your attitude to life. In the end, every cloud has a silver lining.

Прочитайте текст и выполните задания 12–18. В каждом задании запишите в поле ответа цифру 1, 2, 3 или 4, соответствующую выбранному Вами варианту ответа.

Should children be allowed to retake tests?

My daughter texted me from school, upset that she’d failed a physics test she thought she’d been prepared for. She was worried it would bring down her overall grade at the end of the first marking period. A half-hour later, she texted to say all was good. Her teacher allowed her to make corrections – she got all the problems right this time, and her grade was no longer under threat.

On the one hand, I was pleased that she’d taken the initiative to fix what she viewed as a problem. On the other hand, I wasn’t sure how I felt about this infinite redo approach.

When I heard that my daughter was allowed to go back and correct her mistakes, my mind instantly went to all the professionals in the real world – surgeons, firefighters, death-row case trial lawyers, pilots, paramedics, cops and more – who really, really needed to get their jobs right the first time. With some jobs, “later” isn’t an option. Heck, in the realm of less life-and-death professions, I spent years working as a live TV show producer. There were no second takes there, either.

As with all education research, both pros and cons have been tallied and reported.

Some of the pros include the assertion that letting kids retake tests reduces cheating, makes them responsible for their own grades and helps them better evaluate their own learning.

Cons have been listed as: low motivation; students procrastinating until they’ve fallen too far behind, leading to stress; and teachers needing to teach separate lessons to different class members during the same period.

Then I turned to my focus group of one: my husband, a middle school math and physics teacher who has, for years, allowed his students to redo their homework and in-class work as many times as they wish in order to get to 100% mastery.

I asked him why he believes his technique is beneficial.

He stressed that, “Homework and in-class work is formative assessment, which is the key here. Homework and in-class work is practice. Doing the work correctly over and over again is the only way to improve. Tests are summative assessments. They measure performance after practice. I allow redos only on homework and in-class work. I don’t allow resitting tests, because tests measure what they’ve learned after all that practice. If you are a performing artist, it’s the performance that matters. For athletes, it’s the game. Homework versus tests is the same thing.”

That brings us back to those surgeons, firefighters, death-row case trial lawyers, pilots, paramedics, cops and more who, in real life, I would really like to get their tasks right the first time.

Their jobs can be considered the ultimate in summative assessment. But that assessment didn’t come on the first day of training. It came after many, many years of formative assessments in the form of arguing mock trials, practicing approaches on flight simulators, and conducting rescue drills – not to mention taking paper-and-pencil tests as well.

So much education policy debate these days seems to be driven by a zero-sum game mindset. If we do things one way, we shouldn’t be doing them another. As the late Stephen Sondheim wrote, “Is it always “or?” Is it never “and?”

Just as students benefit from a cross-section of classmates, they should also benefit from a cross-section of opinions on how best to teach. It would better prepare them for living and working with a variety of people for the rest of their lives, and help them figure out how they learn best, so they can adapt accordingly.

That said, I would still prefer that my daughter got her physics equations right the first time.

Read the phrase “There were no second takes there” in paragraph 3 of the text and determine what it means.

If you are thinking of what pet to get, a parrot may be what you need. It is not very difficult to have a parrot as a pet. They are happy to eat fruits, nuts, seeds and buds. It is easy to find such food in pet shops, and it is not very expensive. Some parrot species from the South American continent have been observed to eat clay. They do so to flush out the toxins from their bodies which get into their system through the seeds that they feed on. There are also some parrots who feed on snails or insects, but they can't be bought in a pet shop.

Parrots are also great as pets because they have a relatively long lifespan. It varies according to the species. Small ones can live for up to twenty years, whereas medium-sized ones may have a lifespan of thirty years. Big parrots can live more than a hundred years.
